1st Edition Annual Western Uganda Organics & Skills Trade Fair/Exhibition 2026: A Successful Launch
Completed

About This Program

The inaugural 1st Edition Annual Western Uganda Organics & Skills Trade Fair/Exhibition was successfully held from 28th to 31st January 2026 at the former Teofilo Gardens (now Irembo Cultural Gardens) in Rwobuyenje South Trading Centre, Mbarara City. Organized by the Western Uganda World Revival Network in partnership with the Mbarara City United Organics Farmers and Traders Co-operative Society, the landmark event was designed to uplift farmers and traders across Western Uganda and the nation at large. It brought together a diverse group of participants from various regions of Uganda, providing them with a platform to exhibit their unique products and skills to the public. A key focus of the exhibition was knowledge transfer and capacity building. Attendees benefited from extensive training sessions on improving crop production, animal rearing, and value addition—all aimed at boosting household income. These sessions were led by facilitators from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Trade, and other key agricultural bodies. To bridge the gap between theory and practice, a demonstration farm was set up on-site. This included an innovative black soldier fly farming unit, showcasing how farmers can produce organic fertilizers and high-protein animal feeds sustainably. The demo also featured organic crop growing using natural fertilizers, with crops like moringa and vegetables, alongside a nursery bed and a greenhouse. The event attracted a wide range of stakeholders, including NARO Uganda, Mbarara City Council, NOGAMU, Onesm Health Care Products Ltd, Ankole Demonstration Zoo, Savannah Beekeepers, and the National Small Scale Industries Authority. These organizations provided hands-on training in value addition and modern agricultural techniques. Additionally, NEMA and the Ministry of Water offered critical sessions on environmental conservation and sustainable farming practices. With a strong turnout from both exhibitors and the public, the 2026 exhibition successfully connected farmers and traders with new markets, training opportunities, and potential partners, laying a solid foundation for future editions.
